Greetings Fellow Authors,

Though the Baltimore Book Festival is sold out of vendor tables, we have space available. Are you looking to go to the Baltimore Book Festival, the Miami Book Festival, the Midwest Independent Booksellers Association Tradeshow or other literary events? Want to save big money on booth rental? Want to sell books even if you can not attend?

The Author Collective will be in attendance and selling books for our members. Call us today and see what we can offer!

We're opening up a novel category very shortly on PatronQuo.com, so that you all can promote your books through our site. In the meantime, we do need very polished short fiction submissions in order to make a credible appeal for patrons.

Toward that end, we've instituted a Patronage Matching Fund to get the ball rolling, as we offer to use our own money this month to match any patron, dollar-for-dollar, that patronizes a story of one of our participating artists.

So, if you have a great short story - one that is polished, commercially viable, and entertaining - post 'em if you got 'em. In turn, we'll work to promote the hell out of it.

SRR:

The sad fact is that well over 90% of people who submit - and who get rejected - objectively aren't that good. The problem is that 90% of the 90% who are rightfully being rejected for being no good are convinced that they are the 10% of talent that are wrongfully being overlooked.

The fact is, when you're on the reecieving end of so many submissions - as opposed to the sending end - you gain a perspective as to how hard it is to find true talent out there.

On my recently launched site, PatronQuo.com , it's been a slog trying to get participating writers who submit material that is at least edited properly for grammar, punctuation, and typos - to say nothing about the crucial elements of plot, structure, character, and dialogue.

Now, I've put my work out there to the public for all to judge. I'm truly wondering how many talented writers are in fact being overlooked. But I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. If you are one of the few truly talented writers out there who is being unfairly overlooked, then join me on my site, and let's have a boutique selection of solid writers who can make their case to a skeptical public.

I'm at the point where I don't believe in a winner-takes-all approach (i.e. the standard writer's contest), nor do I believe that anyone who dashes off a piece as an afterthought of "artistic expression" merits a mass following (i.e. a typical story submission website).

I'm working to position my site in the middle ground - as a place to take on all talented comers. So, if you have a great story you'd like to post, we'd love to have it. On our part, we will work to promote the hell out of it to find you a patron.

This week I racked up two more rejections, but the important thing to note is I haven't given up yet. Right?

It's all good, you see. Every writer gets rejected. I'm just more prolific!

Amy:

In our opening phase, we are launching with the short fiction category. In time, we will roll out other categories: books, screenplays, comic strips. poems, music clips, etc. In the meantime, if you haven't written a short story, but you want to promote a book you have for sale or have self-published, consider patronizing one of the other short story writers. Why? Because we are designed to promote our supporting patrons as much as the participating writers. Like the writers, the patrons also get their own profile that provides a link to their sites, along with a placement on the stats chart for patrons. Moreover, we blog about the progress of the patrons as much as we do about the writers. So even as a patron, it is a great way to introduce the literary community to your book even as you are seen publicly supporting your fellow writers in the short fiction category. Eventually, when we launch with the book category, your profile will have you in the stats as both a patron and as a participating artist.
